Annual Tourism Campaign for Rideau Hall and for the Residence of the Governor General at the Citadelle of Québec

Every year, the Communications Team would be tasked with the Marketing Campaign for the Advertising of both Official Residences to promote programs and visits between the months of April and November. This required a Communications Plan encompassing various ads ranging from newspapers to magazines to bus shelters to websites and social media campaigns. The plan was presented to both the Manager and Director of Visitor Services as well as to the Director of Communications for approval also requiring contracting, distribution, logistical, and storage needs both locally and in the Québec City region. Thousands of brochure were often produced and placed in tourism kiosks between Fredericton and Kingston. This also included digital campaigns. Trying to capitalize on foot traffic in the Macdonald-Cartier Ottawa International Airport, we booked a video and poster spot for our tourism attraction on display during March Break of 2019.

Eduzone: the Governor General's Educational Program

A project that took over 7 years to come to fruition, the educational program consisted of Eddie the Lion who was based on the Vice Regal Lion, the Governor General official symbol. His quest was to educate children on the Governor General (GG), their roles and responsibilities, and the GG's impact on Canadian society at large. The program was finally launched in 2016. Work involved the development of a digital game (quiz), fact sheets, posters, a custom bookmark (with the lion cut out on top), a mailout to all schools across the country (accompanying the Governor General's Academic Medal), and a flag which made it into space with Astronaut Chris Hatfield. I am able to boast that my DNA has made it up into space. Working with the Canadian Heraldic Authority, I was able to showcase some cartooning and illustration skills.

Canadian Honours System

In 2014, the Governor General wanted to showcase and increase nominations for the public-facing programs of the Canadian Honours System which includes the Order of Canada, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Polar Medal. In celebration of the Order of Canada's 50th anniversary, a whole range of products and outreach campaign had to be developed in anticipation of the upcoming 50th anniversary celebration being held in the private ornamental gardens behind Rideau Hall. A new commemorative logo had to be created as well as a visual identity for promoting the five programs encouraging public nomination as well as potential partnerships and outreach. The work included supporting the development of portable materials for ceremonies held on the road as well as for trade show venues. For its 50th Anniversary, the Order of Canada went with a snow flake theme corresponding to the shape of the medal reflecting the thousands of diverse members invested in the Order over the years. I designed a simple series of pull-up banners that could be displayed separately or all together as well as a large 10-ft accordion display which worked perfectly for group photo backdrops during off-site ceremonies. We also collaborated with Canadian Heritage to create a 50th Anniversary flag displayed along Sussex Drive. This included the development of a Brand Guide. For the Canadian Honours System, we had also designed kiosk signage as well as produced giveaway pieces such as laser-etched pens and logo-pressed moleskin notepads. We supported the creation of an exhibit held across the street from Parliament (at 90 Wellington Street), as well as for a travelling exhibit which drove to schools and community centres across the entire Canadian landscape. The project included reusable bags, official gold-foil stationery used for formal letters by the Governor General, social media and a custom website, advertising in various magazines as well as at the MacDonald-Cartier International Airport. This project to 4 years to complete.
